  • Day 7 (Saturday 28 June) 11:09

Today is Stage 7. We had a good nights sleep and recovered well but are still a little bit more tired than usual. We are all looking forward to reaching Inverness. We set of at 07:30 this morning and are currently on the A9. We will be starting the climb over Dramochter and then the long drop towards Aviemore. We expect to reach Inverness at 16:30 – 17:00 assuming the weather is ok. Headwind making it a bit harder but we are keeping a steady pace.

  • Day 6 (Friday 27 June) 20:41

Callander Set off from Stirling midday and headed north towards Callander past Blair Drummond Safari Park. It was a sunny day in Callander and we had a coffee in the coffee shop. We cycled on to Lochearnhead and Glen Grant. We arrived at Killin after 70 miles and 4 hours of cycling. It was quite a pleasant day but we are pretty tired and needed an easy day. We hope to be better tomorrow for the long haul to Inverness and the final push up north.
  • Day 6 (Friday 27 June) 11:47

We left 08:30 from hotel and we proceeded north to Stirling (traffic heavy) using back roads. No problems. Everybody’s legs pretty tired after yesterday. Today fairly quiet stage and hope to reach destination by 14:00 and have the afternoon and evening off.

  • Day 5 (Thursday 26 June) 9pm

Weather brightened after lunch. We arrived in Gretna and crossed the Scottish border midday. Conditions were favorable but big clouds in north. We left Gretna at 12:00 and headed towards the Borders. Twenty miles out of Gretna the heavens opened with thunder and lighting. We have never cycled in anything that bad. There were also strong crosswinds and we had to shelter under a bridge for 30 min. The road surfaces were very bad (we expected it to be better in Scotland but it was a lot worse!). It took a long time to get to Borders and we arrived at 18:30 after almost 12 hours traveling (10 and a half hours in the saddle) covering 120miles. We are looking forward to some rest as we only have a short day tomorrow. It was the worst weather we have ever cycled in. Everybody is extremely knackered but we are safe and sound with good spirits again  Welcome Home
  • Day 5 (Thursday 26 June) Lunch Time

We woke up at 5:30 this morning to be out of bed by 5:45. It looked like a bonny day despite the bad forecast. After we had a shower, a good breakfast and were ready to go, the heavens opened. We set off from Kendal just south of the Lake District to Penrith in what can only be described as torrential rains.

From Penrith to Carlisle the conditions improved slightly, so we are hoping to get a good run north this afternoon. We are all pretty tired and the rain has made life quite difficult. We are however covering the miles at a steady pace.

Hard day in the saddle We left (just north of Wiggin) at lunch time and made our way to Preston and on towards Kendal. We arrived at 15:30. Winds were pretty strong from the side all day and we we’re pretty tired!
  • Day 4 (Wednesday 25 June) Lunch Time

We left Whitchurch this morning at 08:00 sharp. Favourable conditions up to Warrington where it was a bit busy. It was easy riding up to Wigan (further 20miles north) despite side winds. Wigan was a nightmare to get through and had lunch just north of Wiggin. We are now heading for Preston and are in Lancashire. Hope to reach Kendal 4 - 5pm.

  • Message from the editor

    Hi all,

Thanks for checking up on the team. I am only in mobile contact with them, so the pictures come to me via MMS, so they don’t arrive particularly big. Having said that, I’ve now changed all the current images to links, so if you click on them you can see them in actual size. The team has also been informed of the general request for more pictures.

I’m trying to keep up with the news and post it as soon as possible, so please bear with me and keep checking.

    Regards,

    The Editor

  • Day 3 (Tuesday 24 June) Arrive at Whitchurch

We decided to make a Café stop for lunch today and although it stretched the day out a bit, we thought it necessary to get out of the heat for a while.

Most of the team’s legs were quite tired today, but on the up side we have mostly recovered from the sun of the last two days. Nevertheless, we took it quite easy. It took us about 6 hours to cover the 110 miles and it was another beautiful day with favourable wind.

Now it’s an early night to get ready for Preston and Manchester tomorrow.

    A Welcome Break
  • Day 3 (Tuesday 24 June) Lunch Time

We were on the road at 07:30. We went to Rodger’s work place to have some photo’s taken as they helped with the funding. Unfortunately Ivan had a puncture and had to go in the van to catch up with the rest of the group. The riders are feeling the effects of the sun of the last 2 days and are putting on a lot of sun cream (we are on our 4th bottle!). Most of the riders’ legs feel pretty tired today and we are just taking it easy to Whitchurch (about 15 mph) and we expect to arrive there at 4 - 5 pm tonight.
