Weather brightened after lunch. We arrived in Gretna and crossed the Scottish border midday. Conditions were favorable but big clouds in north. We left Gretna at 12:00 and headed towards the Borders. Twenty miles out of Gretna the heavens opened with thunder and lighting. We have never cycled in anything that bad. There were also strong crosswinds and we had to shelter under a bridge for 30 min. The road surfaces were very bad (we expected it to be better in Scotland but it was a lot worse!). It took a long time to get to Borders and we arrived at 18:30 after almost 12 hours traveling (10 and a half hours in the saddle) covering 120miles. We are looking forward to some rest as we only have a short day tomorrow. It was the worst weather we have ever cycled in. Everybody is extremely knackered but we are safe and sound with good spirits again  Welcome Home
